Announcing the 2019 Future For Nature Award Winners

Three young and talented conservationists from Brazil, India and Rwanda will receive the Future For Nature Award 2019 and 50,000 euros per winner, on May 3, 2019.

From one hundred and twenty-five applications from all over the world, an international jury of experts has chosen three young and talented nature conservationists as the winners of the Future For Nature Award 2019. On Friday, May 3, 2019, Fernanda Abra (Brazil)Olivier Nsengimana (Rwanda) and Divya Karnad (India) will receive this prestigious nature conservation prize and 50,000 euros per winner during the Future For Nature Awards Event at Royal Burgers’ Zoo.

The Brazilian Fernanda Abra (32 years old), the Indian Divya Karnad (34 years old) and the Rwandan Olivier Nsengimana (34 years old) will receive the Future For Nature Award 2019 on Friday 3 May, 2019. Fernanda Abra successfully reduces traffic accidents between animals and vehicles in Brazil, such as maned wolves, cougars and ocelots through preventive protection measures, data collection and analysis and special training for drivers and traffic officials. Divya Karnad, successfully reduces the unwanted bycatch of endangered sharks along the Coromandel coast of India. Finally, Olivier Nsengimana protects the crowned crane birds in Rwanda by fighting illegal trade, facilitating reintroduction programmes and engaging the local population to understand the importance of crowned crane birds.

The Future For Nature Awards will be presented at Burgers’ Zoo for the twelfth consecutive year in 2019. The internationally recognized nature conservation prize was presented in the past by Sir David AttenboroughJane GoodallFrans de WaalRedmond O’Hanlon and Doutzen Kroes. During the tenth edition, His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander was the Guest of Honour. The international ‘Guest of Honour’ presenting the Future For Nature Awards on Friday 3 May 2019 will be announced at a later date.
